I cant bring it up on the screen, Paul. All I see is a small square with a red cross in it. Does that mean it's 'banned' or blocked somehow? Any way round it?

Yep. The only disappointing thing is that if you take away the railway lines, that could be the Liberty Stadium with the forested background and adjacent retail park. It would have been good if they'd been able to stick to the original design with the rounded 'turret' corners and curving roof. Still, beggars can't be choosers.

Re: cardiff city new stadium
Not that I'm a fan of either side, but I quite like the design for the Liverpool and Portsmouth new stadiums. I know both sides have much more money than Cardiff, so I guess beggars can't be choosers in the case of Cardiff's new stadium..but I'm not convinced that they couldn't have come up with something more interesting.
Still, it's an improvement and should see an increase in attendance and hopefully commercial activity. It don't know how it helps the Blues...will they get space for a shop in the stadium, how will the corporate hospitality side of the stadium function on rugby days. I know many of you CCFC fans on the forum couldn't care less, but it does mean the ground and hopefully facilities around the ground will see activity virtually every weekend of the year instead of every other week and the odd midweek game. It's certainly helped for both football and rugby teams based at the Liberty Stadium so I can't see why it would be any different in Cardiff.
Here's the Liverpool one for those that haven't seen it

I haven't got a picture for the Portsmouth one, but here's a link to the latest design released this week I think.

An important question as a Blues fan is how many bars will there be at the new stadium? Queues are always huge at the Arms Park, but will there be any improvement at a primarily football stadium?

Re: cardiff city new stadium
With regard to Kyles point, the "new beginning" document I received yesterday with my season ticket blurb says:
- "The new arrangements at Leckwith Stadium will see the establishment of a Stadium Company that will manage the day to day running of the new facilites...Cardiff Blues will have an arrangement not too dissimilar to what we currently enjoy, as tenants of Cardiff Athletic Club"
- "There will be a joint ticket office and large retail store together with joint branding at the new stadium"
- "Both clubs will benefit from 100% of their own gate receipts and match day revenues".
- "...there will inevitably be strong co-operation commercially and through joint marketing initiatives..."
No mention of how many bars there will be though.

Re: cardiff city new stadium
The thing with the original Cardiff design is that it was a vision for when (and not if) Cardiff got to the Premiership and were competing well in that division. That size of stadium could actually happen one day hopefully. I can see Cardiff turning the financial mess around slowly and making steps towards becoming serious contenders for promotion rather than being a mid-table team. All it needs is more depth in the squad (and some money to achieve that of course !).
Back to the new stadium, I think 25,000 is short sighted myself. They could have built it at 30,000 and it is ready made for international football (including hosting Euro 2016 matches). But, if Wales and Scotland are successful wih a bid or if the FAW want to use it for general matches maybe the FAW can secure some funding to pay for any attendance increase rather than Cardiff paying for it. I think that would only be fair. On top of that teams that move to new stadiums generally see an increase in attendance so I wouldn't mind betting that Cardiff will get higher average crowds once they move to the new ground anyway.

Words of the chairman:
-----
Ridsdale was also upbeat about the progress of City’s new stadium.
He said: “The building work is two weeks ahead of schedule. There is a fair amount of time built in anyway because we must have time to grow the grass – and we have to play a few friendlies to get used to our new home and how things will work on match days.
“Personally, I am delighted the stadium is there at all. Two or three years ago people said it would never happen. Now you can see it is happening.
“The stadium is growing and planning has been granted for the new indoor house of sport. That, too, will be completed next summer.”

If it is working for any of you, you can hold down 'control' and press 'print screen' (or 'prt scr') and that will save the image of everything visible on your screen as a jpeg. Copy it into an art package (paint is fine) and crop the edges off, you can then post it online and put it on this page!

Re: cardiff city new stadium
Zach,
You have summarised the best and worst things of new stadiums in one post!
It’s great that the new stadium will attract new fans, but it’s equally important that those new fans aren’t catered for at the expense of traditional supporters..I specifically refer to the atmosphere at football games, which includes persistent standing, swearing, rowdy behaviour, banter and can be intimidating. Nothing worse than having a ‘new fan’ dictating to long term supporters how to behave.

Re: cardiff city new stadium
With the new stadium I'm also more likely to go to games due to hopefully the number of those referred to by Zach decreasing. One thing I love about the ice hockey is its friendly family nature whilst maintaining excellent atmospheres (indeed I'd say the atmospheres at Devils games would often put CCFC matches to shame).
Indeed, in this respect the two sports are worlds apart and football could really learn something from ice hockey (I'm guessing rugby matches have the similar friendly attitude also).

Would it be possible to have official/unofficial 'zoning' at the stadium? So one end, perhaps behind the goal, is known as where the tougher nuts prefer to go, while some other side is much more family orientated, perhaps with tailored facilities - more children's loos etc?

Re: cardiff city new stadium
I'm no advocate of trouble at football matches, and I shouldn't need to refer to it, when defending football fans, but why should the number of traditional football supporters decrease in the new stadium?
Cardiff City supporters have supported the club through thick and thin. From the terraces of Carlisle all the way to the FA Cup final.
New fans are very welcome, but it would be a disgrace for new fans to come in and try to 'Devils-ise' the experience with kids pop music, and the perculier bloodlust of watching grown men fight on ice.
I respect Blues fans, Devils fans, cricket fans and the cultural differences between them. I only ask for the same respect to be shown toward Cardiff City fans. Come along and enjoy the game. Dont join in the songs if you wish, but dont try and change the nature of football crowds.
No-one wants violence in the stands (rarely happens nowadays) but likewise people like to let off steam at football, and this needs to be respected ny any new fans which the stadium will attract.

Sorry for reacting so strongly, but I have VERY firm views about gentrification in football.
If they built a new mosque in Cardiff, would you be more likely to attend, hoping that there may be less of those pesky muslims in there?
Of course, thats a ridiculous view to hold, but it is precisely the same principle.

Re: cardiff city new stadium
I certainly agree James in the sense that each sport has its own culture and this shouldn't be destroyed. However, I can understand why cultures could be adjusted to attract a wider market. If a slight change to a hockey culture was needed to fill the building every week I'd be all for it!
In terms of football, I've never quite understood the need for swearing in the stands and the aggresive atmosphere you often get a football. It doesn't happen in any other sport to my knowledge and fans of other sports (and players for that matter) are certainly no less pationate about there team.
As Jonathan says you don't get any swearing at a Devils game and you don't feel intimidated.Fans police themselves and you know if you've crossed the line. It's still the most intimidating place for awayt teams to play - the oppostion certainly know their in a battle!
James - I'd be interested in why you think it's tolerated and whether you think there's room for compromise if it would improve crowds?
PS -I'm not advocating a "Devilsisation" of football
the diversity is the great thing about having four pro teams in the city!

Re: cardiff city new stadium
James, firstly I apologize if I have offended you.
Secondly, you must realise that many Cardiff City fans are indeed new and have jumped on the bandwagon as they have risen up the leagues. I used to go fairly frequently about 10 years ago when the team were struggling in Div 2/3 and I distinctly remember there being crowds half the size of what they are today. So to say that these supposed 'old fans' should not be affected by new fans is stretching it a bit as most 'old fans' aren't old at all - if that makes sense!

Re: cardiff city new stadium
oh God the old chestnut of football fans. Yes we are all neanderthals roaming around looking for away fans to bash over the head.
One of the things that attracts me to football is the partisan nature of the crowds, the fact that you go with mates and that you have been going to the football both home and away with the same people for 20 years.
How many rugby fans or ice hockey fans go to away games. It is just not the same. CCFC took an average of 1000 fans to away games last season, would have been more if the police hadn't destroyed the RAMS.
We are a partisan bunch, I hope we continue to be a partisan crowd when we get to the new stadium.
BTW, per fan in attendance, there are more arrests during the rugby internationals than for football internationals. Go check the SWP's stats its all in there.

Re: cardiff city new stadium
I'm certainly not argueing against a partisan fanbase - It varies from sport to sport and it all helps to provide a different match night experience which I think is a good thing.
What I don't understand is why you have to swear and be aggressive to be partisan?
Having been to both football and hockey games in Cardiff I would say the crowds are equally partisan. Fans also choose to sit separately and the banter is very evident. The difference is you don't get people swearing and making wanker signs at opposing players and fans.
I accept this is a minority, although it's a big enough minority to have built a reputation for football. As I've said in another thread - perception very often isn't reality - but there is usually a basis for the perception to develop.
I suppose if Cardiff is happy with it's current fan base there's no need to adapt the culture, but if it wants to achieve a sustainable fanbase from a broad cross-section of society it may need to adjust the experience a bit.Like any business.
PS - in terms of away support I would think the percentage of travelling Devils fans is similar to CCFC. I'd guess rugby is similar for important games aswell, it's just they're less prominent because they mix with opposition fans.

If they still had the rights to show football matches than I guess it would be shoved down your neck like the Rugby!
When you listen to BBC Radio Wales, they do promo the football matches a lot, because they still have the rights.
Now Swansea are in the Championship, will there be a return to the bad ole' days of 'Home and Away' fights!
Do both teams still have a problem?

yellow is nothing to do with the flag of St David. that was brought in by Sam Hammam. We have had yellow in our kit since we were Riverside FC.
In a gesture of solidarity and friendship I believe the stadium should incorporate elements of both the city and the blues previous identities.
the blues played at Cardiff Arms Park so we could take the word Park from that....
the city played at Ninian Park so we could take Ninian from that.
put them together and you will get...
