(Which, to be fair, does mean 'FORGET IT, SANDMAEL!' and the rest of the article does say that the municipality is not taking it all that seriously - but there is a forum on it on the Aftenposten website, nonetheless!) But don't you just wish Cardiff had that kind of money? We'd have Bay Point up in a few days.......and the GN...and...and...oh well, never mind

That looks absolutely horrific. Would be nice to have Norways money though. Why, when Wales was at the forefront of the global trade in what was once the most important raw material in the world-Coal, were we not totally flushed with cash like that? Has Wales historically been shafted and Robbed by Westminster? |

I agree.. I was playing devils advocate. The past is what got us where we are though, and without learning from it, we are doomed to repeat it etc etc etc! |

I just put it up to show what could happen if we were awash with silly money like the Norwegians and throwing taste and proportionality to the winds in the interests of showing how wealthy we were. Come to think of it, the new Oslo Central Station put up on another thread DOES look positively arabic/moorish in style with those arches and the strange tower on top - definitely not severe Scandinavian like pre-oil-riches Oslo City Hall. If you were to look at the Wikipedia picture of Oslo Sentralstasjon, you might wonder why the 'old' one opened only in 1986, is not still good enough for a rail network of minimal size? I wonder whether it's one of those French architects who does a lot of designing of OTT buildings for Dubai and other Arab States, and whether Norway is trying to live up to its nickname of being the White Sheikdom of Europe?? Incidentally I met a Norwegian the yesterday who just had to agree 'Yeah...I suppose we are always boasting of being the richest country in the world...'... |
