St James Church Newport Road
This is the listed church opposite the CRI and next door to the City Lofts development at Admiral House. There is an application to convert it into 12 flats and one commercial unit. Strikes me as an odd one in these times - given that any conversion is likely to be at some considerable cost. Plus it seems that apartments next door are proving hard to shift. Previous planning application was for a mountain climbing centre.... On a related note the listed Unitarian church - one of the best in Cardiff in my opinion - in West Grove has still yet to be converted despite rumours of it being a bar/restaurant. Whats the likelihood of that happening in the next few years? |

A new climbing centre opened recently on Newport Road I seem to remember, which might be related to why the church one did not go ahead... |

I think there will always be a market for this kind of niche development. Admiral House will struggle now because it's a rather un-original apartment block in which the apartments were probably overpriced to start with. But 12 flats in a church close to the city centre? Sounds exclusive by anyones standards. |
