Assembly Square webcam
On the webcam, there appears to be a large white structure over by Britannia Park that looks like a bridge. Is this the bridge over to Roath Basin? I was under the impression that the current bridge was a featureless temporary structure until the new permanant red one was installed.

Re: Assembly Square webcam
I'm sure its not the bridge. was over a few days ago, looks like an amusement of sorts. Like the Boat ride thingy that rocks back and forth until you through up

Re: Assembly Square webcam
They are getting on with building the office that's for sure. They are almost at the sixth level already...which is just about as tall as it is going to get.
Has there been any news on a tenant because you would swear they have one lined up with the speed at which it is being constructed.

If only they were all built at this pace...

That large white structure is probably the cardiff Bay big wheel - looks like it's gonna be the same size as last year, highly recommended - don't forget your camera!

Re: Assembly Square webcam
Has anyone done the circular route around the Bay yet? whats is it like? Is the newly opened stretch of walkway attractive or just functional? Baron or decorative? How long does it take to walk from, say, Assembly Square 3 to the bar in the old building across the other side in Penarth? (The old customs house building? maybe I'm wrong...)

Re: Assembly Square webcam
I'm yet to do it but I can't see it being any more than functional at the moment. Don't forget that quite a bit of land between the visitor centre and the barrage is derelict and empty ready for the Roath Basin project, plus you may have to pass a bit of the working docks.
Still, it's great that they've opened it up because once the start work on Roath Basin (months and months away yet) then we'll be able to have a little look at what they are doing hopefully.

Re: Assembly Square webcam
Hi me! I did it today and thoroughly enjoyed it - just gutted I didn't have my camera. Reckon it took about 30 mins from mermaid quay around to the barrage. I'm gonna do it again soon as I want to get some pics, the landscaped grassy banks prior to the barrage are really well done. The only thing that pi***d me off was how good the mothballed tower of bellway would look from this area if it was going ahead!! still I consoled myself with how amazing bay pointe and a completed isv will look when complete. From the other side of the bay you get a great view of just how much things have changed in the last decade, and there's me impatient for more!!

Re: Assembly Square webcam
I went across last weekend after the food and drink festival, and it's quite good. you walk right through the site of Roath Basin (currently a complete mess!) past both the two dry docks. I only got as far as the harbour authority's building on the far side of the barrage, but very interesting nonetheless. The path is baren, just a tarmac road that seems to have been there a while already, may become a proper road in the course of development.
also, on the other side of Locks Road (thats the one that separates the port from roath basin) has soem interesting row of old warehouses which you can see from mermaid quay, they look ideal for use as offices, restaurants, units etc.

Re: Assembly Square webcam
They won't be used for those kinds of uses - they are outside the development area and remain docks land. I can't see things changing given that, apparently, the port is seeing some revival in traffic.

Re: Assembly Square webcam
Cargo Rd is the long road that follows the line of warehouses you mention. These aren't in the area bought by WAG/ Igloo for the Roath Basin south side development, and I'm not so sure that's such bad thing looking at them.
There is a large scheme of roadworks to start in Aug for the Queensgate roundabout area to make access better, and outline planning has been granted, so hopefully it shouldnt be too far off.

Re: Assembly Square webcam
allegedly abp are quite eager to get those old warehouses pulled down and replaced with new ones before someone lists them or something similar.
also, a confirmation that there are notices at the port entrance stating that some of the roads are going to be closed over august/september while works relating to the roath basin development are undertaken. The whole docks entrance there is being shut and moved at some point, so perhaps they are putting a road over the bridge there to the new development?

Re: Assembly Square webcam
I noticed what seemed to be a steward (in a yellow luminous top) at the entrance to the footbridge by the Norwegian Church last Monday. Are they there to prevent people taking bikes around the route, or are bikes allowed?
