Has Sleeperz construction halted?
Past it today - no sign of life. Admittedly it was just before 4pm but a few times now there seems to have been no further progress. |

There were guys working on it yesterday. I think most of the work's internal now though so structurally it won't change much now. |

![]() Here's proof...well two workers at least. They seem to be taking their time on taking the scaffolding down that's for sure, but this picture does give you a good idea of what it is going to look like because quite a bit of the hotel can be seen through the scaffolding etc. Shame about the inactivity on the site next door !

I'm sure their main aim is to get it open for the autumn internationals. Four games in Cardiff in November, three of which are massive ones, and a place like Sleeperz can almost guarantee a sell-out. |

Frantic work on the outside in the last few days. A few weeks ago they even had Penarth Road (the little end that shouldn't really be called Penarth Road, that runs from the back of the station to the Great Western pub) closed for a few days to do work on the south facing side. |

the style of this build reminds me of the uni building at the top of Park Place, junction with Corbett Road or am I seeing things? |

Agreed, it does look very nice but it should have been at least twice as high as it is. Looks a bit stumpy! I'm sure they could of got planning for a 10-15 storey block. Maybe it was the the construction techniques that didn't allow for it. Is it brick faced timber? |

With Sleeperz, Central hotel and the travelodge in the area you might wonder about the logic of putting so many places of sleep right in the middle of late night club land. Unless they are there to serve stag nights etc. The problem is felt starkly by the Park Plaza who despite triple glazing have many customer complaints about noise from Greyfriars Road. In a few months time they are due to turn a number of their road-facing hotel rooms into additional gym space. Inicidentally, I'm not advocating making clubs quieter/close earlier, just wondering why they put hotel in among them! |

Sleeperz build hotels near mainline stations. It's their niche. Simple as. |

If you are going to stay in a city centre hotel near bars and clubs you shouldn't really expect tranquility. It isn't anything to do with UK binge drinking either. I've stayed in many a city centre hotel in other countries and part of staying in that sort of place is you may experience some noise. |

Or is this a concerted effort to diversify land use on St Mary Street and put the squeeze on clubland? |

all part of the ebb & flow of land use in a city. |
