Cardiff quietly loses Millennium Magic
I know fears were expressed a few months back that it COULD leave Cardiff, but the WRU have confirmed on the MilStad website that it will not be returning next year due to a failure to reach agreement on terms. Is it just me or did this stay off the media radar. Certainly I didn't see anything about it on BBC etc. |

Funny that. I wonder why ? I know our northern english friends were complaining about prices of hotels etc. but the RL forums had nothing but good things to say about Cardiff. It could be related to the attendance I suppose. I don't think it has taken off with us locals as much as the RFL would want and I don't think the WRU really give a shit about it for obvious reasons. Commercially, yes, it's a money spinner for Cardiff and for the stadium but the WRU doesn't really want the league game to get a foothold in South Wales does it ? Personally, I've never been fully tempted to go and watch one of the games there and that isn't because I'm a purist union fan. I'm really into NFL so I don't object to other oval ball sports...it's just never tempted me for some reason. I wonder if this decision will also affect the Celtic Crusaders getting a Super Leagure franchise ? Again, I'm not 100% bothered in terms of the sport, but as a Bridgend boy originally it would have been good for the town. |

Disappointing, but not surprising, judging by the low turnout this year. It felt badly managed. You could have walked the streets of Cardiff that weekend and not noticed anything was happening. Cardiff City Council needs to get its act together on working with other organisations to publicise events. Is anyone aware that Europe's largest competitive cultural festival comes to town in two weeks? |

I think Dan O'Neill has been whipping up a warm Kairdiff welcome for the 'steddfod. |

From what you're saying Lyndon I get the impression that he's been making derogatory remarks...? I never bother to read his stuff so I wouldn't know anyway. If so - it's highly ironic because Liverpool were pitching strongly for the Eisteddfod last year. Would have made a useful contribution to their Euro Capital of Culture status and not misplaced either - it was held in Birkenhead in 1917 - the year Hedd Wyn won the Chair posthumously. If O'Neill really has been running it down it's a testament to an incredible narrowness of outlook. |

Thanks Lyndon - but just those two words 'language loonies' speaks volumes about the writer. Don't think I'll bother, mate .

Next Tuesday is when the decision will be made about the two new Super League franchises. I think there is the audience in South Wales for one of these teams - I haven't been to watch so far but if they were playing the likes of Wigan or Bradford then I think the crowds will come. |
