David Morgan - new shops
If anyone is interested, there is a new MoltonBrown shop soon opening in one of the David Morgan shopfronts opposite SD2. For those who have never heard of them, they sell pricey lotions and potions (of the soap variety). The outlet's windows are currently covered up with their corporate images and products. |

Looks like many of their shops (or emporia) have onsite spar facilities, which would be a great draw for the area if repeated in the hayes. A 'something to do' as well as a 'something to buy'. |

Somewhere else for my other half to spend her own hard earned and undoubtedly buy me some product I really don't want for Christmas. Honest

Was out shopping for clothes today, not something I do that often!. What shocked me was the lack variety, all the big high chains source from the exact same wholesalers. All were having summer sales and they all reminded me of Primark or C&A in the bad old days, pile-em-high, sell-em-cheap. rail after rail of tat. H&M, Next were selling shirts for £3 jeans for a fiver. The only problem was they looked disposable! Went into HOF to get something a bit more decent and it had spread there too, little more expensive but again rail after rail of cheap tat. Do they buy the stuff in just so they can have a sale. And we need more clothes shops? The Chinese manufacturers must have a good laugh at what westerners will wear. |

I bought a pair of £6 Jeans (and another for £29) just this weekend. Not worn them yet but they look fairly decent, having originally been priced at £25. Its undoubtedly the case that stores stock similar things. The fashion cycle that spits out a new trend every few months for women which is then slavishly followed across the price spectrum has now firmly established itself in mens clothing. At the moment t-shirts seem to be bright and with pretty garish (and rather meaningless) graphics. There are always places to get classic clothes, however. Howell's has a range of concessions and stocks a lot of good stuff, and there are a few smaller stores about town on St Mary's Street and in the arcade which focus on a few 'collections' and brands. Zara and Benneton also typically go for a few styles/designs and build on them rather than the 'pile 'em high' style. What kind of clothes do you want anyway? I never have trouble finding something good to wear in Cardiff, although I tend to avoid both the top and bottom ends, and anything too showy. SD2 should remedy this problem to some extent - in addition to Reiss and All Saints, I expect we will see a few upper-middle market stores entering such as Mango, Bershka, UniQlo, Muji plus some of the 'designer-lite': Calvin Klein, Paul Smith etc. I think men's clothing may do quite well out of SD2 as its under-served in the city. |

We sell MoltonBrown in Howells and it does very well so I think their own store will be good especially in that area |

Howells is great...was in there on the weekend. I live in the aquascutum/crombie section. got mysefl two nice new suits and a few shirts and a pair of shoes...certainly no high street tat when you buy best of british actually, such a side issue, but if you go in aquascutum they have a very nice harris tweed suit...you have to see it to beleive it. I can imagine it with a blue shirt, a red paisley cravate and a fetching pair of tan oxfords

Not David Morgan's but I thought the SD2 list was now too long. Looks like Gerry Weber is in discussions about opening a store in Cardiff - I'm guessing SD2. http://www.retail-week.com/News/2008/04/gerry_weber_to_up_its_presence_in_the_uk.html It may or may not already be signed but we won't hear for a while as they seem to be running a really odd retailer announcement strategy. We already know of other retailers and the "type" they announced suggests other larger people have said yes too. |
