Anyone Know ..... ??

Looking to find out who
1) Did 'Stairway To Heaven' but not Led Zeppelin. It got on the UK charts and was a 'one day wonder', I think. Around mid '80s ??

2) Anyone know why Dead Man's Hand is so called in poker, and what are the cards held ????

Any advice would be most welcome. Thanks

Re: Anyone Know ..... ??

Hi

Errrr, not sure about the first. I think a few did that track but I cant be sure of the chart maker. Did Thin Lizzie's Gary Moore get a handle on it ? Or it might have been an obscure artist like Dave Edmunds who did a serious amount of remodelling and may have run it past some aspiring bands.

From memory, I think that is a pair of 8s and a pair of Aces. Something to do with that Dutch Cap having that hand and blowing everyones loot. Ok, theres probably a better reason but I dont know it. Anyone know better ???

Good call, Big Unit. Thanks.

The one I was after was Far Corporation. One hit wonder and never heard of since. Great version though and in the charts for a few weeks.

The poker hand is something I cannot fathom out. The vague story could be confirmed but I cannot find any links. Maybe Dutchy is in jail !!!

Re: Anyone Know ..... ??

More useless information king is back.

Dead man's hand refers to the hand that Wild Bill Hickock had when he was shot dead. It was aces and eights. Not sure what the 5th card was but could have been tossed in.

Thanks to a western nut at work.
