Subject:   Designated Visitor Parking

Message:   I live in the courtyard villas of Villa Valdosta and I have just received a “Parking Notice” from the Deed Compliance Office. The notice stated that I was parked in a “Designated Visitor Parking Area”, and I was subject to being towed. I called the Deed Compliance Office and spoke with a “Nick” who informed me that some areas in our Villas were designated for visitor parking only. When asked how I would know where the designated areas were, since there are no markings of any kind designating those areas, I was told that it was explained at my closing and it was also covered in the Declaration of Covenants, Conditions and Restrictions for the Villages of Sumter Villa Valdosta. I indicated to him that no such information was provided at my closing and the copy of the Covenants that I had made no mention of any designated visitor parking areas in the Villa Valdosta area under Article VIII Parking Restrictions. After an ongoing conversation with Nick it was determined by me that he could not produce a legal document, covenant, or restriction which would prevent residents of Villa Valdosta from parking in the vacant spots. What I would like to know is there a written document, statue, rule, or regulation that specifically identifies certain areas in Villa Valdosta as “Designated Visitor Parking Areas” and, thus support the Deed Compliance Office’s position of issuing parking notices and threatening to have your vehicle towed.

Respectfully,
Doug Taylor
