Hello Fabia, thanks for your reply.
What Doctors website did not directly advise tea tree for ls. It was me that chose to try it. I know teatree can cause some bad reactions in some people - as can prescribed medications which can cause some horrendous side effects. Tea tree is mostly quite well tolerated by people. I have a friend who is a GP who recommended my young daughter to use it on a small patch of infection on her eyelid.
I do actually tend to have extremely sensitive skin and remember reacting really badly to Vagisil last year. If I can keep these symptoms under control then I will be happy not to have to go down the conventional medical route.
In my case I feel that the symptoms have come along as a result of hormone imbalance (menopause) as well as a bad thyroid infection which I had last year and which seems to have knocked my immune system a bit. Plus a lot of stress in my personal life which is calming down a bit now.
Anyway, I shall experiment a bit longer with something that seems to be agreeing so well with me. I feel much happier going with this for the time being. If I get a really dire reaction, or if the symptoms come back then I will go back to the doctor.
I have to say, I'm totally squeamish at the thought of biopsies etc, and am trying to avoid that route at all costs.
I would not dream of advising anyone else to do what I am doing, this is my own personal approach. But it is also good to share experience.
