Hello, I've just found you today. I'm in New York.
Three GYNS have told me that they believe I have LS; and, finally I allowed my current GYN to do a biopsy. To everyone's surprise it came back negative!
I have other autoimmune diseases: Multiple Sclerosis; Autoimmune Thyroid Disease. Possibly Sjogren's. I am diabetic.
I have an appointment with my GYN on Friday to discuss the biopsy results and determine what happens next. Reading your posts, and the information on this site and others, I feel certain that I have LS.
I am 55, post-menopausal, last menstruation Oct 2003.
My sxs, which go back at least 3 years, perhaps longer are: itching; burning; what feels (and looks) like a million tiny paper cuts on the labia; burning with urination; thinning of tissue; dryness; sores; white patches (almost looks like thrush from what I can see); sex is painful not internally in the vagina but because of the terribly sore skin of the labia majora and minora. I have terrible burning and itching of the perineal area.
I also notice that like my other autoimmune diseases this seems to have distinct flares. I always have some level of discomfort, which at low ebb I can ignore, but during a flare I cannot ignore the symptoms. Does anyone else experience flares of this nature?
If this isn't LS, I don't know what else it might be. I've been checked for STDs, had cultures takens, smears, Paps, the works.
So when I see my GYN on Friday, 5/9/08, I think I will ask her to treat me "as if" I had a confirmed diagnosis and presume that the biopsy was flawed. Perhaps the sample did not have sufficient cells for a definitive diagnosis? Or was mishandled? Or she took a biopsy of the one healthy tissue site on my labia
Does this make sense to anyone? Any other suggestions?
My partner is a 49 year old male, and we have been together for 10 years. He is very loving and patient but ... I'm sure he'd like to have sex again in this lifetime. As would I!
Thanks for any comments you may have to offer. I feel so lucky to have found this site, and this message board.
Best regards,
Dottye |
