I saw my GP about 3 weeks ago. He referred me to the gynaecologist at the hospital, and also noticed that there seemed to be an infection (as there was pus when the area was prodded - something I hadn't noticed). For the infection he prescribed a weeks course of penicillin, which I took, but when I had my appointment at the gynae clinic last week, the doctor still reckoned there was infection present. This may be a red herring of course. the main thing is he said I needed to have a biopsy to check for cancer (although he reckons thats unlikely for a woman of my age - 48, but basically he found the appearance of my left inner labia 'unusual' (its very swollen) so wanted to get it checked.)

The crazy thing is, I'm far more worried about the procedure for this biopsy (which will require general anaesthetic), than I am about the possibility that I may have cancer. Maybe that will come later?

I have to go in for day surgery on Wednesday to have this procedure, and need to take the rest of the week off work to recover, so its not a small thing. Far bigger than the biopsy I had to diagnose LS which was just done in clinic under local anaesthetic. I've never had a General Anaesthetic before and I'm rather worried.

Best to get these things checked out though I suppose.
