One month later, and things have moved on A LOT. Yes I do have vulval cancer, and I will be going in for surgery next week to have the affected area removed (sadly this will probably have to include the clitoris). They will also remove the lymph nodes in the groin to check if the cancer has spread at all.
I'm 48, younger than the normal age for vulval cancer. Read an interesting statistic in a book on the cancer though - that TWO THIRDS of women who develop vulval cancer, already suffer from Lichen Sclerosus. (it doesn't work th other way though as only 2% of those with LS go on to develop cancer - I guess I'm just one of the unlucky ones)
My message to the rest of you with LS is keep checking for any changes in the appearance of your vulva, and if you are even slightly worried go to get it checked out asap. I wish I'd gone sooner. I'm convinced this cancer has been present for at least a year. |
