Hello to the other 24/01/07 beginners!
Hi, you may remember me as Rich from Wednesday night's beginners introduction (the one in the black jogging outfit). Thought I'd post to say I had a great time and aim to practice my stretches and steps over the next week. I didn't expect so much emphasis on upper leg stamina and endurance, but I can now see why (if Wikipedia serves me correctly) footwork was taught for 6 months before a sword was even touched during the first half of last century. A shocking fact, but quite in perspective now. I recall that we get to that stage by next week though! Looking forward to the next lesson, and hope to see you there too. So, see you all next Wednesday! -Rich |

Hello! Well, I could still walk when I woke up yesterday but climbing stairs was enough of a challenge to make me regret not exercising for the past couple of years :( I'm looking forward to next week's session even though I'm sure Peter will torture us with more fiendish footwork exercises :) Look forward to seeing you all again next week! Gents I think I may just about master the basic footwork or the upper body bits but the two together are going to be a challenge! At the end of last week's lesson my approach was to wave the foil around and occasionally run backwards when Donna attacked me. Clearly room for improvement, but I'll do my best! See you both on Wednesday. Iain |

I think my legs have recovered faster this time, although we didn't do so much of a warm up. We may not be able to get away with it again! There's nothing wrong with running away - particularly when you're being chased by a woman with a large sword See you all tomorrow night! |

I thought last week's session was very good and it all seemed to come together at the end when we were able to fence against our opponents. Hopefully more of that tomorrow. On a different note - I cannot find anywhere that sells 'long' sports socks!! Two alleged 'Sports shops' in Coventry didn't appear to stock anything other than 'chav-wear' and I got funny looks when I asked if they sold football or rugby socks (although that may have been because of my non-local accent). I think I may have to resort to buying off the internet! See you all tomorrow... |

I'm starting to think that I'm the only one who is looking at this forum...Is there anyone else out there? If so, have pity and type something :) Last night's session was excellent once again. Only Iain and myself turned up, though. Donna had decided that we needed extra practise and graciously stayed at home to allow us to catch up. Richard, where have you got to? Valentine's Day can be excused but what happened last night? Anyway, not content with physically punishing (for me!) footwork exercises, Pete decided that he wanted to test our coordination (or lack of it) with Timing exercises. I found it akin to rubbing my tummy while patting my head which I was never able to accomplish in Junior School! Iain and I even managed to cross swords after the coaching session and I think we both came out of it with honours even. More than can be said for my bout with Detti who was kind enough to let me score a couple of hits before wiping the floor with me :-D Come on, lets hear from somebody else now - this is turning into stream of consciousness... |

YO! Sorry chaps, was downed by a mysterious plague. Shall be out of action for a couple of days yet I imagine, much to my delight. There's nothing on the horizon to stop me next Wednesday, so expect to see me then. Sick, twisted or dead - I'll find a way to be there. |
