Married student questions

Okay, I am thinking about coming to OCU in the future and I have a few questions as I should be married by then?

1. Will I get more financial aid if I am single or married? (As a married couple, we'd be making much less than our parents did)

2. Is any housing available for married couples?

3. Are there any type of financial aid or scholarships for married couples? (Some colleges give a discount on the second student's tuition)]

Thanks!
Brian Baker

Re: Married student questions

Hi Jessica,

These are all great questions. I will answer each one in order:

1. Married students do qualify as independent students. Meaning, you do not have to use your parent's income on the FAFSA, but rather you and your spouse. I would suggest speaking with Caren Richeson (Director of Financial Aid) at cricheson@oak.edu.

2. Yes, the University does provide married housing. The Carriage House apartments are designated for married students.

3. Unfortunately, the University does not have scholarships that are specifically for married students. Again, you could speak with Caren Richeson regarding this topic.

Please feel free to email me at bbaker@oak.edu if you have any further questions.

God Bless,

Brian Baker

Re: Married student questions

Are the apartments the same price as the housing on campus? Do we have to buy a meal plan or can we buy our own food?

Thanks!

Re: Married student questions

Yes, it is the same housing cost (each student pays the housing fee). No, married students are not required to purchase the meal plan.

Thanks, Brian Baker
