Tandem breastfeeding on a plane?

I'm flying with 5 mth old twins to Perth soon. I'll also have a 2 year old and my Indonesian helper along. I'm wondering if it's feasible to tandem feed the twins during take-off and landing. Last time I flew with my older boy, he had a hard time with pressure in the ears. Unfortunately, I'd already stopped breastfeeding him. When we did succeed in having him take a bottle, it made a difference.

This and any other advice about flying with small children most welcome!

Re: Tandem breastfeeding on a plane?

Hi Lucy!

I would think it would first depend on where you will be sitting. If you are requesting for baby bassinets, you'll be sitting on the front rows with armpits that can't be lifted up.
If your twins are like mine, they would not be feeding well if they are not comfortable -and I guess having an armpit in their back may not put them at ease, even if you try to prop them up with whatever you have.
Moreover for security reasons I am not sure the crew would let you hold the 2 babies for take off & landing.

Have you considered trying the pacifiers or a bottle of water?
Have a good & safe flight!

Re: Re: Tandem breastfeeding on a plane?

Thank you, Cecile! Whether good or bad, we're in a row without bassinets (these were all taken!). But it means we can move the armrests. Grateful for the reminder that safety has to come first. It's so easy to over-focus on silencing crying babies. Most likely, my helper will take the one who is willing to take a bottle, I'll take the one who prefers the breast. My two-year old will sit between us and yell! It's only 4 hours so we should be ok :) And I have a feeling ours won't be the only little ones protesting on this flight!

Hi Lucy

No worries, you'll be just fine! 4 hours is indeed quite short and I am sure you will find the right activities to keep your 2 YO busy!
- thx for reading armrest when I was writing armpit and safety for 'security' (oh, where's my brain %-)
