? Autism..

My fraternal twin boys are 19months old. My elder boy is more responsive and jovial than the younger twin. I am worried that the younger twin has autism as he seldom response when we call his name....less responsive. Anyone knows where i can go for test to check for autism here in Singapore? I know my twins are individuals, are different in their development and character and mustn't compare the 2 but i can't help but worried for my younger twin. The earlier I know if he has autism, I can send him for early therapy.

Re: ? Autism..

Hi May.
I know how anxious you must be feeling. My husband and I were worried about our fraternal twins too when one seem to be non responsive while the other seem to be protesting each times when we hug him. There were also little eye contact initialy.... However over time they got better and now started to initiate non verbal gestures to communicate and loves to be hug and kissed and begin to play well too. For your info, they will be two in Sept.
What you can do is see your paeditrician and let her know your fears. She will be the best person to assess and see if your child need further investigations upon which she can refer you to KKH Child Development Unit where they have therapist who will do observations etc. Go asap cause its hard to get an early appointment at the CDU.
It might not be autism but from my experience they will send your child for several tests to make sure that the reason he is not responding is not due to other defects like hearing, etc. For all you know it could be that he is just quieter by nature.
Meanwhile continue to play and stimulate your twin by talking, singing and make sure you have lots of eye contact with him while doing that.
Don't worry! All will be fine. Keep me posted!

Re: ? Autism..

Hi Nora. Sorry for the very late reply. Thanks for the very valuable advice. Did went for the KKH appt recently. They cant really confirm he's autistic yet. To see them again in 6 months time. My elder one is really communicating now but the younger one is still the same...maybe slightly better than before. Jus hope that he is just a late bloomer n he's normal. Thanks again.
