Twin 2 - A small baby

Hi,

My twins is 3 months now. The older brother Twin 1 is growing well, catching up with other singlet babies of the same age. However my younger twin boy is still very small, weighing only 4.7kg and head circum of 38cm (birthweigt : 2kg, Head size : 32cm). Ped said the smaller twin's head size is too smal, falling in the 3 percentile group and its not a good sign. Further investigation is needed.

Does anyone has similar experience to share? I've been so troubled now as another problem is added to this poor baby.

Re: Twin 2 - A small baby

Hi! I have a pair of twin girls. They are now 1 year old. My bigger twin is growing well at the normal rate as single baby. But my smaller twin is slower. she was 1.58kg when born, head circum 30.5cm. Whem she was 3 mths old, weight was 5.5kg, head circum 39.5cm. For the first six mths, we found that the smaller one did not response much to us, not so alert as the bigger one. However, she is more active & more alert than the bigger one after 6 mths. Although she is slower in terms of motor skills but the mental development is normal or I could say better. As they are still growing, hopefully your smaller will catch up soon.

Hi Alice,

Thanks! My Twin 2 is responding well to me, only that the doc is very concerned about his development due to his cleft palate and lips. We went to his neurosurgen for a check .... lucky to hear from her that my boy is ok :) phew ... another burdern down.

Re: Twin 2 - A small baby

Hi Janice, i think your smaller twin shoudl be doing fine. my smaller twin is coming to 3 months and he is only 2.2kg while the bigger one is 2.3kg. their birth weights are 1.25kg and 1.4kg respectively. i too am worried that they are not gainin enough weight although their activity levels and feeding look ok to me. not sure if it has something to do with my size too. i am small built and my first boy who was born at 37 weeks was only 2.3 kg. my own birth weight was also 2.3 kg. maybe i can only manage to produce small babies... :(
