I will say that Tom has made a very emphatic statement, in that, perhaps, neither of us have derived the very "divine" applications that some claim Chris represents. I refer you to the posting "Bear" on the forum subject "Gravity", where you will find a quite interesting analogy: "As the turd drops to the earth - so we must all wipe our a-- (ideally!) This makes the point that we are all equal under the sun (a real star, around which the earth literally orbits). Tell me if I'm wrong: 1) the sun rises upon all (albeit blind or otherwise); 2) the rain falls indicriminately upon all (albeit rich/poor, healthy/sick, etc 3) we are all birthed into this world that is governed by certain observable, identifiable, undeniable and unalterable laws of physics (and of nature/instinct) which cannot be denied (except one be clinically pronounced 'insane'). Therefore, Tom and I, I suspect, have simply enjoyed not only the music of Coldplay, but also also the compassion upon mankind that it seems to convey and instill in those who give it a pleasurable listen. The finished product produces, in me, the idea or need to be compassionate, forgiving (yes, there is a need for this seemingly abhorrent term based on the fact that we all make mistakes (including Chris). "Fix You" is a good example, in that, there is no definative claim made as to who is right and who is wrong. Simply presented before us is the need for compassion on humanity (one anoher) which, necessarily, involves (like it or not) for forgiveness. This is the essence of compassion and kindness. Without it human kind simply . . . well . . . "at war" (or some other expression of violence that quenches the need to exact a pint of blood, which exemplifies the soul that refuses to forgive or try to understand another) Selfish, selfish. I do not believe that Chris had much more in mind. I suppose that even my own "interpretation" is far to extreme. We will not know what the intended meaning or purpose of ANY Coldplay song is until THEY (or Chris) siimply tells us! Until then, all is speculation and there is no definitive ruling (right or wrong). |

Bear - We will not know what the intended meaning or purpose of ANY Coldplay song is until THEY (or Chris) siimply tells us! Until then, all is speculation and there is no definitive ruling (right or wrong). Perhaps true. But if you read Tom's post again, you'll be surprised to find that he makes no reference to the lyrics of any Coldplay song. Rather, he is objecting to their being described as "indie rock". Tell me if I'm wrong: 1) the sun rises upon all (albeit blind or otherwise) You're wrong - this is in fact an illusion, caused by the rotation of the earth. 2) the rain falls indicriminately upon all (albeit rich/poor, healthy/sick, etc) Again wrong - if rainfall were indiscriminate, there wouldn't be any such thing as deserts or droughts, would there? 3) we are all birthed into this world that is governed by certain observable, identifiable, undeniable and unalterable laws of physics (and of nature/instinct) which cannot be denied (except one be clinically pronounced 'insane'). This may be true, but if you can prove it, you'd win the Nobel Prize. The "laws" of which you speak are, problematic and contradictory, and this is why physicists have spent the last 50 or so years trying to find a model that contains all the observable phenomena. Do you refer to Einsienian laws or Quantum ones? And by the way, you called Nobel winner Niels Bohr "insane", as well as many others who have questioned assumptions and Dared To Dream.)
