RP drivers side cill

I am in the process of replacing the cills on my '33 RP.
The existing cill has a bulge near the drivers foot, I assume to allow more clearance.
The replacement dosn't have this feature as do a number of other cars I have looked at.
Any ideas when it was introduced / deleted.
Thanks

By bulge, do you mean outwards, away from your foot, or inwards, towards your foot?

Right, now your onto one of my favourite topics......
Well,
what I mean is I'm interested in this Topic,
I even raised it on here a couple of years ago,
but no response, so lets get going.....

The Cill Trim cover strip on the inside of the car that has bit's of carpet on it, for some unknown reason all the Cill Trim cover strips I've seen are flat by the drivers foot, BUT the area behind it is shaped concave - away from the drivers foot.

Thus my side Cill Trim on the drivers side has been cut back so that it covers the bottom of the 'A' post and manages to clip on to the horizontal member (inside the Side Vent), the area towards the front of the car of the Cill Trim has been cut off, by me.

This now means I can wear clod-hoppers* when driving the RP without my foot becoming stuck/jammed between the brake pedal and the Side Cill Trim.

Trouble is this is not an easy area to photograph, though I do have some on my other PC at home.

* Of course Clod-Hoppers with a deep tread pattern are an absolute pain when you try and move your foot around on the throttle peddle on a long drive, the tread gets caught up, mind you soft rubber soles are just as bad, no meat to get the pedal down, they quickly wear out at that point - nothing left to spread the load twix your foot and the brake pedal when an quick stop is required.
Footwear should be good stout leather soles.

Yes, the cill is concave away from the foot. This is shown on a photo that you very kindly posted a short while ago.
The thing is, my new replacement cill is flat, as are the cills I have seen on a few other cars. Of course it is possible that these cars do not have origonal cills.
I am curious as to which is correct. Is it worth beggering about and nmodifying the new cill?

Re: RP drivers side cill

My apologies Les, forgotten I had sent details....

Both my RP's have the Concave Cill - if the Cill goes forward past the 'A' post. Both cars as far as I can see have NOT had replacement Cill's. The one in the garage I know most of it's history, the one on the road I'm the third owner and there is no invoice, record etc., of new cill's when it was refurbished in 1997.

Anyway I think this is the bit your talking about:-
The Red line is vertical, the chalk line is in the same 'plane', thus shows the concave area.

Strangly enough both cars have this extension on the passenger side:-

and this is a replacement cut-back Cill Trim Panel waiting to be 'worked' on:-

If anybody is using the standard Cill Trim panel as available (and possibly original) i.e. with no Concave bit, then it really makes no difference if the Cill Panel itself has a concave face or not, certainly nobody is ever going to ask you to remove the Cover Panel to check the Cill for indents or not - if they even know they are there.

Sandy

My passenger side (origonal) is the same as yours. The new drivers side is just a mirror copy of this.

Re: RP drivers side cill

Another item that seems to have been copied wrongly by the repro bodywork people is the engine compartment cill extension - the one that covers the exhaust pipe area, I thought I had a photo, but can't find it.

On the originals there is a valley (concave) round the edges to collect stray petrol etc, that lands on the panel and they channel it to the outside of the exhaust pipe and 'away', the repro's have a raised 'line' (convex) to the upper surface of the panel which I have found is not as effective at draining away fluids!!!!

IF photo's required, they may take a little time to do....

Once again thanks to Sandy I've been able to steal a couple of those pictures for the Pinterest site for RP saloon reference!
