wiring flashers

I am fitting flashers using a Lucas SPB 120 replica indicator dashboard switch. When I connect up, the pilot light is lit and it brightens when either left or right flashers operate. What am I doing wrong ?

and here may be of help?:

Re: wiring flashers

Thanks for reply. I have connected as per your diagrams.
My flasher unit has "X" for live supply, "L" to left and right terminals and"P" to pilot light. Flashers work correctly when pilot wire is disconnected but I need the pilot to indicate flashers working.

Re: wiring flashers

That sounds like a bad earth to me.

Re: wiring flashers

Have remade earth and tried an alternative earth too. Also remade all connections to switch but still the pilot stays on.

Re: wiring flashers

Chris I suspect the flasher "can" could have a cross feed.If you can try a different one this would rule it out.

Re: wiring flashers

Chris, I think that your problem is that the SPB120 switch is designed specifically to operate with the 5 terminal Lucas Flasher unit 080.137, NOT with the standard 3 terminal flasher unit which you have.
Fit a separate warning light wired to earth and the "P" terminal on your flasher unit and leave the switch's "C" terminal disconnected.

Re: wiring flashers

If you are not using LEDs I think simply wiring the pilot across between the left and right outputs might well work. The low power(high resistance) pilot then earths through the high power(low resistance) bulbs on the other side without illuminating them because not enough current flows.

Re: wiring flashers

Thank you all for replying to this thread. I fitted a new flasher unit, from Auto Electrical Services this time, and it works perfectly.
