Wrong lucas lights?

So we recently brought a austin 7 ulster in ok condition and it came with some light however the car dose not look berry good and not like a normal ulster or ulster replica, a freind has told us that these headlamps are 1926 light when ulster from what I know we're only made in 1929, I would be interested to know if anyone knows were I can get a decent pair of 1930 style lucas head lamps?

Re: Wrong lucas lights?

Keep an eye out for Lucas R47. They have a main beam and separate pilot light. They come up on eBay occasionally - I think that Tony Betts had a nice nickel plated pair but they are probably now sold.

There are some reproductions on the Internet. I can't vouch for the quality, but from memory they used to be about £400-500.

Dad's Ulster rep has a pair of marchal headlights that don't look out of place and are significantly better in terms of night time visibility. Worth a thought.

Olly

There's a pair on ebay right now:

Missing their reflectors unfortunately.

Re: Wrong lucas lights?

Olly,
John Barlow had some made a good while ago. These were just the shells and rims with no fittings. I have used the Seven Workshop reflectors for the special I am building.

Re: Wrong lucas lights?

Good evening Olly. Previous correspondents are correct in identifying Lucas R47's as the correct headlamps for your car. I have been restoring and making them for many years, if you are interested give me a call on 01785 850916 to discuss.

Stuart,
Apologies,I didn't know you made them from scratch.

Re: Wrong lucas lights?

Good evening Dave. Apologies not required - I appreciate the interest. The pair recently sold by Tony were one of mine, the reason for the nickel plate was they were ordered for a Swallow restoration which didn't come to fruition - I still have the side lights.
I also use the Seven Workshop reflectors in my lamps unless they are in for restoration in which case I use originals re-silvered.
PS shouldn't Henderson's Relish contain an apostrophe? As a practicing teacher I was taught that every teacher is a teacher of English.

Spot on Stuart, I've just checked the label and Henderson's it is. However, when I grew up in Sheffield apostrophes were generally regarded as the preserve of middle class southerners and, as such, to be avoided at all costs.

Re: Wrong lucas lights?

Stuart and Ian,
Correct, there should be an apostrophe. Looking back at previous contributions I used an apostrophe but I think later on this year I gave up on it when there was the madness of the "backslash invasion". I have inadvertently joined the current trend for apostrophe abuse.

Ian,
Too much pie and Hendo's (please note apostrophe) can blow quite an ill wind.

My daughter lives not too far from the Relish Emporium and a bottle is always one of my prized Christmas presents..

That combination is to be my tonight's dinner, Dave. My wife, who originates from Nottingham, can't stand Hendo's though!
