if
it's about Cardiff..
Sport, Entertainment, Transportation, Business,
Development Projects, Leisure, Eating, Drinking,
Nightlife, Shopping, Train Spotting! etc.. then we want it here!
As a teetotaler I'm not much of an expert on nightlife. Clearly there are plenty of bars and clubs in Cardiff, but any variety. There's a Jazz bar on St Mary's street, I don't know if it's any good. Anything else? Cardiff seems very one-dimensional. I don't know how that compares to other UK cities.
I went to Porter's recently. You may sit down at a table and eat a meal while watching a band or cabaret. I wasn't teetotal and had four bottles of Kwak and yakked the next morning for the first time in about 10 years.

Was a good night with friendly people though.

that's a very nice Belgian beer that's very strong @ 8.4% IIRC.
The nightlife was one reason why I moved to Cardiff six years ago.
Now it's only a minor thought for me, but I am of course six years older than I was and it hurts financially and physically to go out like I used to.
What I do think has improved is that there is a wider geographical spread of 'nightlife' now - it really used to be focussed on St Mary St and on Greyfriars. Although both have probably suffered as a consequence, the growth (re-emergence?) of Womanby St, more places down SD2 way and beyond and also alternatives in the inner suburbs (though these tend to be bars rather than clubs) have been welcome.
Are Buffalo and 10 Feet Tall still trading or did they close with Fire Island?

I have to ask - where did you live previously if you think Cardiff is a good place to come for its nightlife? its pretty polarized geared towards the 2-4-1 hen party and stag do crowd. it's a wet magaluf

Bedford. And before that a town in the Berkshire commuter belt.
I was mid-20s and had several friends in the area. There was a good mix of pubs. There were enough places open to the early hours to suit us, some with pop music, some with 'dance' and some with alternative/indie etc. The live music scene was reasonable. There were some comedy venues (maybe just one actually). Plus it was cheaper than SE England, more varied, more fun and at the time I would have quite enjoyed places aiming for the hen party market.
