if
it's about Cardiff..
Sport, Entertainment, Transportation, Business,
Development Projects, Leisure, Eating, Drinking,
Nightlife, Shopping, Train Spotting! etc.. then we want it here!
I thought it would be good to have a catch all thread for arts related activity in the city. Highbrow, Lowbrow, whatever. WMC or Dr Who, buskers or Millennium Stadium. Festivals, tours, institutions.
(I had thought of doing this during the recent Swn and WOMEX festivals, but had other things on).
So, to get us started instead, the new No Fit State space on Four Elms Road is just about to open! But they are also retaining their existing site on the corner of Callaghan Square. I'm sure this is good for them if the money works out, and good for Splott as well. For the building work geeks there are photos of before and after the old church's refurb here:
The foundation cost £160,000 a year, WG offered an extension until December for them to find alternative funding sources, but the board felt this could not be achieved in parallel with delivering the services they currently operate and decided to close the office. Three people redundant.
That's an inventive new use for a former church building.Good on them.
True enough - although the main church building is still in use for its original purpose. The sheer number and size of nonconformist churches in the Victorian parts of Cardiff is extraordinary. There are (or were) half a dozen huge chapels within a couple of hundred yards of each other in Newport Road / Broadway / Clifton Street.
