Spam filter ... is rejecting non-spam messages!

I've now had 2 messages rejected as spam. And then lost the entire content when I go back to try to make changes.

I realise the forum has a spam problem, but this is going to get frustrating very very quickly. Paul - is the option of different 'levels' of filter? Can you make it a bit less stringent?

Re: Spam filter ... is rejecting non-spam messages!

Paul,

can't you just set the filter to block any posts from 'RandomComment'

Re: Spam filter ... is rejecting non-spam messages!

Looking at the Forum recently, it has become apparent that there is a need for 'Registration'. I operate a Forum with 'closed membership', i.e., it is restricted only to those who live/work in the catchment area for the Forum. On a daily basis, registrations are attempted from USA, Russia and - mainly - China. I am able to reject them all having checked various items (not just IP Address!) which I will not list here for obvious reasons. All registrations are routed via myself so I can authorise or otherwise each application. After the initial period, this task is not onerous. I have no trouble with spam or stupid posts. I am able to 'control' behaviour, if necessary, (and to date it hasn't been) by suspending accounts for a period - a week, a month or whatever - or banning completely the individual concerned.

I know it probably isn't what you want for the Forum, Paul, but the danger is the problems of the 'rogue posting' recently may only serve to drive people away. Let's get back to what this Forum should be - please!

Re: Spam filter ... is rejecting non-spam messages!

Ok my subscription for the current messageboard runs out in july so having queried the problems we are encountering if things aren't better then I'll look elsewhere. I can only apologise for issues encountered - I'm pretty fed up with going into the control panel to delete all these mad postings myself!! Please hang in there with the cardiffwalesmap forum, afterall central square looks like it may be sorted! - so now is not the time to quit!!

Re: Spam filter ... is rejecting non-spam messages!

After a lot of trial and error I found that on the Capital Quarter thread the board would not let me post the below bit of text because it was spam:

"I could imagine it might become popular"

However it does let me post it here. Hard to see why these words are so spam-y.

Re: Spam filter ... is rejecting non-spam messages!

I'm having trouble posting about new retailers in St Davids thread. This is getting really tiresome Paul. Isn't there something that can be done?

Re: Spam filter ... is rejecting non-spam messages!

I've tried to post about 4 or 5 times but gave up. I sympathise with Paul and I wish these spammers would just fuck off but the difficulty of actually posting a message is off putting

Hi Karl - my apologies for that. Love the Internet but inevitably it comes with pain in the arse people, companies etc. That spam, troll, deceive and generally try and screw it up for the vast majority... I guess it's a human thing! Still obviously these issues need addressing, my concerns with a new forum is losing the history of this one! Anyway i'm in florida at the moment so it'll be one to ponder!

Re: Spam filter ... is rejecting non-spam messages!

I hope you're not paying for the spam filter. Its clearly not fit for purpose. Genuine messages struggle to get through, but "Nike Free Run" plus gobbledegook does?

Apologies, but believe me no one is more pissed off about this crap than me! However I am away til the end of this week. This messageboard format is due for renewal on the 22nd theres no way I can make a payment for a service that has become plagued with issues! It was fine for years but recently its taken a nose dive. Still last day in florida so gotta get back to pool now!

Thinly veiled 'I've spent the spam filter software money on a jolly in the sun' post IMHO
