Sadly, I have just received the following news from Derek Warmington:
It is my sad duty to pass on the news that Captain Chris Sample passed away yesterday, Wednesday 15 November, after losing a long battle with cancer. He was 76 years of age.
Chris spent his whole career at sea, initially with BI and then from 1971 onwards with P&O Princess. He retired in 2001.
The funeral is at 2.00 pm tomorrow, Friday 17 November, at Mount Jerome Crematorium, 158 Harold’s Cross Road, Harold’s Cross, Dublin, D6W HY98.
I was very sad to hear this news, as Chris was one of the cheeriest and friendliest captains with whom I have had the pleasure of serving. I remember well, the hospitality he gave us in his own home when we called into Dublin in mv Victoria around 1999. My deepest sympathies go to his wife, Veronica.
