David here, COE and TRG's message board coordinator.
I can understand your confusion, so I will try and make it a bit clearer.
Until recently, the TRG OA meetings that were held in #OARecovery became independent and are no longer affiliated with TRG. They are now simply OA meetings without any official connection with TRG. Meetings in #OARecovery are still being held every 3 hours at 12,3,6 and 9 - AM and PM, EST.
TRG has meetings for newcomers in #Recovery every day at 10AM and 7PM daily (EST).
Please feel free to contact me directly if you need any further information.
Thank you for writing our message board. David is correct in his response except for one thing. The Newcomer meetings in #Recovery are not daily. We have Newcomer meetings on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 10:00 AM and 7:00 PM Eastern Time.
You can find a doorway to the #Recovery meeting room at www.therecoverygroup.org/doorway.html To reach the #OARecovery meeting room, just add the letters, "OA", to the front of #Recovery. It will then take you to those meetings. There are numerous other ways to access #OARecovery. One is at www.starchat.net. Another is www.oa.org and click on "Find a Meeting."
Overeaters Anonymous considers it a violation of the traditions if members use the doorway we set up for meeting members to reach #OARecovery on The Recovery website to access that Starchat meeting room. They also requested that we remove and to change the names of 25 of our 12 Step support loops. The Recovery Group is complying with that request and changing the names of these groups as well as the hundreds of links on www.therecoverygroup.org website leading to these resources for compulsive eaters around the world.
The reason OA gives for this request is that ALL Email support groups, no matter if they are "OA Groups" are an 'outside interest' because they are no in real time. The Recovery Group's position is that this arbitrary prohibition is contrary to the traditions and is exclusionary rather than inclusive. Nevertheless, OA holds the copyright to the letters "OA" and we honor that copyright.
If we can be of help to you, don't hesitate to write to us at TRGAdm@TheRecoveryGroup.org Again, thank you for using TRG's Message Board. We invite you to join one of our 12 Step Support groups.
