I thought the only difference was the thickness of the linings, which necessitated different clutch lever settings? May be wrong of course!

I thought the very same Martin - will now look out both types and report back any difference I spot.

Well,they look much the same in the drawings, but are the later ones thinner?

For those interested:

I have now had a chance to compare both types of clutch cover plates and can report that they appear identical in all respects that I can see.
