Christmas and starter motors.

hello all

hope you've all had a good Christmas

when on the recent pwa7c trial it suddenly became apparent that not only had my bacon slicer starter motor stop working but also how hard it is to push the button in the confinement of a tiny cockpit. some friends pointed out the 1930s later starter motor which came with a movable button instead of having it next to the pedals, i did some research but it came up with nothing and i was wandering weather anybody had on up for sale

as for the trial it was great despite the challenging conditions and a great big thankyou to the spectator/marshal who picked my camera up off the road before it got run over.

have a good new year

Re: Christmas and starter motors.

Oliver,

I believe that the direct drive starter motor is rare but you possibly can put a starter button for the bacon slicer on the tunnel. I believe the same button is used but in a shrouded mounting housing.
Didn't the Mini have a similar starter button ?

Re: Christmas and starter motors.

Oliver - Tony is correct - a Mini one is very close in appearance. If no-one else volunteers, send me your snail-mail address via email and I can post you a paper template of the holding bracket which rivets to the passenger's side of the tunnel. (There's a slight difference between the bracket on a standard car and that on an Ulster, so let me know which it is you need). Cheers, Bill in Oz

Re: Christmas and starter motors.

Isn't it something like 'vacuum cleaner' starter (have a look at one off the car!)

Re: Christmas and starter motors.

The Brooklands book on the "Austin Seven and Ten" has on page 37 an excellent drawing of the type of starter motor in question - and more importantly illustrates the floor-mounted switch perfectly. Now if some kind Friend could kindly scan that illustration and put it up here (something I'm too dumb to do), Oliver would then know what he needs. Appreciate any help. Cheers, Bill in Oz

There's a 'non-bacon' starter housing on ebay:
