A pilgrim's progress

Friends
As soon as spring is in the air I plan to visit a friend in the northeast of Scotland. I intend to motor up in my PD at a reasonably leisurely rate taking places of interest on the way.Day 1 for instance will take me from Lincoln to Carlisle.Day 2 from Carlisle to Perth and day 3from Perth to my destination Glutt.From Glutt we will travel across Scotland using the coast road East to west.Then travel back down the west coast.
I would be grateful for any advice in regard to which roads to use and which roads to avoid .Any complications such as ferries bridges etc and any places which might be of interest.Infact any advice would be welcome!!
