Chemical Descaling

I was recently shown a complex aluminium cylinder block which had been subject to chemical descaling. The appearance was that of a newly produced block.

The process is done by the immersion of the part into a molten solution of sodium hydroxide at a temperature of around 350 degrees Celsius, together with a small percentage of sodium hydride added.

Perfect for Seven crankcases and especially blocks, where it is almost impossible to remove all the crud in the water jacket around the cylinder walls.
