Cracked cam follower

I have a follower that tightens up when the conical tappet adjuster locknut is nipped up.
I suspect that it is cracked.
Is it possible to replace this with the engine still in the car.
The hardest bit would appear to be replacing the valve collets from an upside down position. Any tips here (stiff grease perhaps?)
Thanks in advance.

Re: Cracked cam follower

It will be cracked for sure Dave.

I have replaced these in situ on several occasions.

You "usually" (not always try without first) have to remove the valve guide to allow enough space for it to come up enough to be removed - on reassembly, if a straight guide, you can tap it back in, if stepped you will need to use a long thin bolt to pull it back up into place. From memory I think you need to remove the tappet before removing the guide, then the follower.

The whole job is made a lot easier if you remove the exhaust manifold - happy to talk you through it if you phone.

Thanks for the reply Ruairidh.
I'll not be able to get back at it until Tuesday, so I'll give you a ring tomorrow.
