Front brake lever connection fouls backplate

Hello,
I am building a special from a pile of bits. I now have the complete chassis and engine put together.
When I went to fit the front brake cable I found that the connection to both levers fouls the back plate. Effectively the lever ball is too close. I have short lever I bought from the seven workshop which look exactly how they should be.
Has anyone seen this issue, I assume I have something that does not match.
My first thought is to fit longer lever of which I already have a pair.
I wanted to attach a photo but I can't work out how to.

Have you put the lever on the right way round? The ball should lie more or less under the centre of the king pin

I had the same problem when I rebuilt the saloon (I don't know who made the reproduction levers that came with the car). I reverted back to the original levers. Subsequently, I have used levers from John Barlow which have been fine.

Hello Ian,
Yes, even pointing down it is too close. I wonder whether the new brake cables have larger socket connectors.

I have suffered this exact problem on a number of occasions - it was the newer type brake cable ends that were causing the problem, not the levers, the ones that look like this:

I solved it each time by replacing them for the older rounded type that look like this:

To be clear, I only needed to change the end caps over.

Me too Dave & Ruairidh. Same cure. Malcolm and I were talking about this at the weekend and he's used the same cure as well.
