Prohibitions

One wonders if we have just got away in time???

I quote from today's (Saturday 2 July) Daily Telegraph ...

"A ban on 'old bangers' came into force in Paris yesterday. Cars registered before 1997 are no longer allowed, in an attempt to cut pollution."

Re: Prohibitions

Mike very old cars are still ok, extract from French site.

Any exceptions?

Yes, vintage cars are excepted provided they have are clearly marked as a "voiture de collection". This also includes old cars used for tourism, such as the famous Citroën 2CV that many guides use to take tourists across the city.

Other exceptions include old cars used specifically for work, such as garbage trucks or armoured vans.

Re: Prohibitions

Douglas,

Thank you for that.

Mind you, forgetting vintage and classic for a moment it could still be pretty disastrous for some folk who still use twenty year old vehicles perhaps. Also Paris today - where else tomorrow?

Re: Prohibitions

I imagine that all major cities will put measures in place to reduce pollution in the near future. I understand this has been the case in Japan for a good number of years for example. There, also, exists special dispensation for historic cars.

Personally I can think of much nicer, safer and tranquil places to drive my Seven, and young family, than pretty much any city, however historic it might be.

If you feel differently however it appears that, as usual, you still can.

The end of the world thwarted until another day, again.

Re: Prohibitions

This illustrates how the motor industry has brainwashed the authorities and how ignorant the authorities are on pollution, our little Sevens have one of the lowest carbon footprints.

Quite so. Why someone would want to drive in Paris in any car, let alone a Seven is beyond me. Plenty of other places available where our cars are welcomed and where driving is a pleasure

You mean, "unless you live there" I suppose?
