Re: 3 speed gearbox compatibility

I just want to confirm what I think I have read.

I have an early coil engine with bacon slicer starter. I am about to make a gearbox swap (both 3 speed but the replacement has closer ratio gears). I plan to replace the 3 speed release bearing with a new 4 speed.

Is all I need to do remove the 3 speed release bearing carrier and swap the old 3 speed (with ring thing) with the new 4 speed, and then replace the old toggle fingers with the new hammer head ones (and set distances). Remove the spring that holds the pedal onto the clutch and job done?

Nothing needed on springs on the clutch fingers, and nothing needed to simulate the 4 speed bearing that holds the release away from the clutch?

Thanks
Peter

Re: 3 speed gearbox compatibility

That's it Peter. You'll, maybe, have to do some 'adjustment' to the clutch lever stop on the gearbox but that's all. I normally test mate the gearbox to the engine on the bench so as to check clearances etc.
