A friend of a friend has recently purchased an A7 first registered in South West London, the Wimbledon area, in 1938. He is keen to acquire an appropriate dealer plaque to fill the holes in the dashboard where one once stood. He's trying to track down any likely dealerships in the area where the car might have been purchased. Any one any suggestions as to possibles?

Jarvis were motor dealers based in Wimbledon. They had the Morris and MG agencies (according to Wikipedia) but had an interest in Austin 7's as well.

Try light car dealerships.

I have small collection of these plaques, and when I try to look up details on many of them they don't come as austin or morris or even swallow. Many of the small car dealerships sold verious cars makes and are market as light car dealers.

Wimbledon Motor Works Ltd, 29 High Street, Wimbledon Common, SW19. Tele: Wimbledon 4567. Details are listed in bold type indicating that they were 100% sole Austin Dealers.

The following 3 companies are listed purely as Agents for Austin Cars and were not 100% sole dealers of their vehicles.

Broadway Motor Co. Russell Road, Wimmbledon, SW19. Tele: Liberty 2494/5

L.F.Dove, 33-37 Russell Road, Wimbledon, SW19. Tele: Wimbledon 4306

Morgans (Wimbledon) Ltd,82 Coombe Lane, Rayners Park. SW20

Possibly the car was supplied or serviced by one of these garages?

From my files by 1936 Morgans are gone, and Tillotson's Motors have started up at 116-118 Broadway and 3-5-7 Palmerston Road Wimbledon.
By 1938/9 only Wimbledon Motor Works and L.F.Dove remain with a new listing for Evans (Wimbledon) Ltd, in Alexandra Road

Russell - thanks for the extra info on dealers. Thanks also for comments re Archives. We are really beginning to see progress now with more to come over the next few weeks that should hopefully entertain and delight. What is really gratifying is we are beginning to see offers of donations and loan materials to the archive to bolster the collection. That is lovely side-effect of publishing and sharing the materials we have..
