Re: Valve Spring Pressures Load

Andrew, this is probably wasting your time, but the only info I have is (a) Stanley Edge's original calculations said the valve spring fitted length was 1 1/4", the coil OD 7/8", the fitted load 25 lbs, must compress to 7/8". Against this is I think the standard valve spring became 1 5/8" long by 7/8" OD. (b) a Speedy outer spring was 1 7/8" long by 1" OD, the inner 1 15/16" long by 11/16" OD. Can't find what I've done with the Ulster specs. All this because no-one has given you any useful info as requested and this may not be much more help, but I don't have any pressure figures. . Cheers, Bill

Re: Valve Spring Pressures Load

Good morning Bill,

Many thanks for the info, very kind and all very helpful. Doing the load checks on the springs this week. You wouldn't have info on the speedy fitted load(seat pressure) please?

Andrew

Re: Valve Spring Pressures Load

Sorry, no, The Speedy figures I gave were obtained from measuring my own engine. If you are contemplating fitting Speedy double springs, let me know & I'll send you a sketch with measurements of the base plates which keep the springs separated. Cheers, Bill

Re: Valve Spring Pressures Load

Andrew
Hi,

Wondering if anyone has some information about valve spring pressures for seat pressure and on full lift on an early block with stepped valve guides. Both for single and double springs or other springs.

Happy if you want to email me details.

Many thanks
A

Hi Andrew, This information must be readily available simply because new springs are being made and sold so the manufacturer and sellers must have a set of Specs to work from Other wise it is all hit and mis.
As this would make it very hard for Engine builders.

Would be nice to hear from a manufactuer

Re: Valve Spring Pressures Load

Agree with Colin. Re my previous posting, 'cos I was sending from local library I had no reference when trying to remember the name of the part, so called it a "base plate". In the Parts Lists for the RP they are called "cups", but in the Type 65 Parts List the terminology is "spring caps". Cups or caps, it's your guess. Cheers, Bill
