So Fuzz Townshend has one too...
Re: So Fuzz Townshend has one too...

From memory reading practical classics it was a half decent Box saloon. Then they chopped the roof off it for no particular reason. Then put a special body on it.

Re: So Fuzz Townshend has one too...

remember seeing fuzz at the restoration show i think it was, with the box and the ruby. showing off what he had bought.

several people pointed out what it would cost to restore them. and what they would be worth when done.

he was quite cocky, money was no problem as it was covered by the magazine.

i think latter when prices were worked out, it made more sense to him to build the box into a special. (cheaper)?

shouldnt say i told you so.

then after he cut the roof off and realized his mistake.

i had to deliver the new body he bought from me, to get himself out of the *****

although it looks like its all worked out well for fuzz in the end.

although he never recognises us little people at beaulieu nowadays

Re: So Fuzz Townshend has one too...

The bloke who ended up with the ruby on behalf of the magazine did a tidy enough job of it as I recall.

Re: So Fuzz Townshend has one too...

Not sure if Practical Classics has done more than one Ruby but the one that they did about 5 years ago was mine.

I found the Mk1 as a genuine barn find which had not run in several decades. It was a beauty for originality.

I would have kept it but circumstances changed and when I saw PC wanted a project I got in touch. Fuzz came and bought it on the spot.

Thankfully they retained all of the character of the car - the original paint, tatty interior, the seaside pennants stuck on the windows - and the 'bullet holes' sticker in the rear window. Having done the mechanicals they sold the car at Beaulieu about three years ago. I nearly bought it back...

Re: So Fuzz Townshend has one too...

His co-presenter doesn't impress me much either , but that's TV for you .

Re: So Fuzz Townshend has one too...

Hi Ian

Fuzz is on TV at least 4 times a week withCAR SOS , but perhaps you don't watch TV?

He is a a very good mechanic and I'd say he brining more new folk into the classic car restoration scene than anyone else in the UK.

So far though his programme hasn't restored an Austin 7 but Iive in hope!

Unfortunately it seems you need to be on the point of croaking to get your project on Car SOS.
