Re: Imperial Motors Bournemouth

Douglas,

I think the photo of Imperial Motors will date from around May 1937 and the Coronation of George VI and Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, rather than 1952 as you suggest - hence the new Ruby standing in the entrance and possibly another behind the left hand showroom window.

Re: Imperial Motors Bournemouth

Can any of you clever buffs blow the picture up without loosing the definition.

I'd like to see what the clock has on it.

They are normally KLG with fit and forget in small print on the face.

Some panels can be customised to there location, would be nice to know if this one is to imperial motors.

Thanks Tony.

Re: Imperial Motors Bournemouth

Austin Dealers in the United Kingdom, Austin publication 1388, gives Imperial Motors as the Main Agents with George Hartwell, H & H Hunt and P W Surplice as subsidiary agents.

Ripple Gelato, 185 / 187 Old Christchurch Road would now appear to occupy the old premises of Imperial Motors.

Re: Imperial Motors Bournemouth

Clock seems to have 'Regent Petrol' on it

Re: Imperial Motors Bournemouth

Tony,

From what I can tell, the panel above the clock face says 'REGENT', the panel below the face says 'PETROL' and the side panel facing onto Old Christchurch Road says '?'.

Jeff

I think you are correct, I was guessing his death and the Corronation of Elizabeth but did not look at the cars in the window.

The below provides a bit more info on the garage in 1946.
