Austin Seven Ruby-Registration BOV 551

Anyone know of an Austin Seven black registered

BOV 551

My family in West Bromwich at at the time,
owned it in the 1950's
and I am curious to what happened to it!

Location: London

Re: Austin Seven Ruby-Registration BOV 551

Keith,

Not looking good I'm afraid, the registration number doesn't feature on the DVLA Database nor on mycarcheck (so the number hasn't been transferred to a more modern car) nor has it ever been on the A7CA Chassis Register.

It could still be around in long term storage somewhere, but if so, the above would appear to suggest it hasn't been on the road for a very long time.

The registration BOV 551 was issued by Birmingham in March 1936.

Jeff.

Location: Almost but not quite, the far North East of England

Jeff,

thank you for your prompt reply.

I felt sure I had the correct reg.No.,
however I believe the BOV to be correct
but now you have me thinking!!

I have a photo of me sitting on the front bumper.
I'll re-check and see if I was incorrect.

Jeff,

On checking, the reg is as I said.
So I would agree, maybe they took it away and stored it,
but why, who knows!!

Is there anyway one can check the issue of the reg in Birmingham
which would fit, as my parents lived in West Bromwich, West Midlands.

Thanks anyway for your time

Re: Austin Seven Ruby-Registration BOV 551

Hi Keith,

Unfortunately Birmingham (OV) were one of the many local authorities that destroyed all of their registration records when the DVLC now known as the DVLA was set up in the mid to late 1960's based in Swansea. So sadly there's no way now of checking who were the first or subsequent owners of your parents car.

Presumably you've no relatives or family friends remaining from that time that could throw some light as to what your parents eventually did with the car?

If you happened to have an old log book for the car that showed its Chassis Number, you could check that against the A7CA Chassis Register just incase it's either lost its original registration and been given a new 'age related' one or if the car has been exported and now carries foreign plates - the Chassis Number would remain constant.
