Con rod 1A918 identification

Help, please!

I've just acquired a box of 14 used con rods, part no.1A918. I suspect they are Big Seven parts - can anyone confirm this?

The rods came with three packs of new old stock Vandervell white metal shells labelled "VP 218/.040 1 set main bearings 7.9 HP 1938 Big Seven CRV CRW".

If I can identify them positively I'll put them on eBay tomorrow, but if anyone here is interested in some, please let me know.

Location: Herefordshire, with an "E" not a "T".

I don't know what they are for, Martin but, I believe that Big 7 con rods were part # C2-8 with cap and shells, C2-8-A with cap but without shells (see parts list http://www.a7ca.org/downloads/partslists/PL_1937_1598BigSeven.pdf

shells part # 1A1518

Martin - according to the big seven factory index cards, here: http://archive.a7ca.org/wp-content/uploads/IC_B7_BC.pdf big seven connecting rod is 1A 1503.

Can you measure the rod - perhaps Austin 8 or 10? Measurements may help to identify.

Re: Con rod 1A918 identification

Thanks, chaps.

I've now had the chance to measure/compare the rods and I'm pretty sure that they must be late three-bearing A7 with the shell-type big ends.

All dimensions are the same as later 2-bearing rods, with the exception of the narrower, offset big ends (1.055").

I've never worked on a three-bearing engine and of course can't find my parts lists when I need them!

Re: Con rod 1A918 identification

As you say, that looks to be a late three bearing she'll type rod.

Parts lists are on the A7CA archive.

Re: Con rod 1A918 identification

Doh! Hadn't thought of the A7CA Archive!

Interestingly, the part number for the rods in 1406D and 1586 is C1-285, BUT the bearing shells are listed as 1A-919 and the big-end bolts 1A-920, which would logically go with rods 1A-918.

Mystery(partly)solved?
