girling front brakes..

ok.. thanks to other threads i ve got the right cams in and my brake arms the right way round.. two things remain unresolved tonight though... first the brake arm return springs, I assume these are 'handed' and the loop goes over the front securing bolt with the spring arm looping behind the arm itself thus putting it under pressure as the brake is applied.. however with the arm at rest at about 7.30 angled forward this loop doesnt even touch the arm until the lever moves back beyond 6 o clock almost to 5.. that cant be right?

and finally.. please there must be an easy way to fit the shoes and springs..

Re: girling front brakes..

I have used nylon string through the loop on the spring, tied round a hefty screw driver to get some leverage - seemed to work. Colin

Not only are they handed, they are different front to back. Each of the 4 springs is different from the other three.

A brake shoe spring hook might help
