Splendid, Renaud. I consider BNF/Gallica an excellent resource.

All the best,
Stuart

Re: 29/4/1923, Milan circuit de Monza, Grand prix des cyclecars, Arthur Waite sur Austin

Briefly Arthur Waite was Herbert Austin's son in law - started racing Austin 7's early on, came to Australia in 1927, won the first Australian Grand Prix in 1928 and after a good racing career in 7's went on to be a company director, retiring as executive director of BMC in 1964 .

He was the founding patron of the Austin Seven Club in Victoria and we have one of his racing trophies in the clubroom.

Others will have a much more detailed history.

Cheers, Tony.

I wondered why there was no comments. That was obviously because he was so well known.
Thanks Tony.

Go to the A7CA Archive website, click on Trophies, then on Waite where you will see images of the "Monza " trophy won as a first class award in the 750cc class by Waite at the Italian Grans Prix.
The trophy correctly described as " Societe Incemento Automobilisimo e Sport " is held by the A7CA. It is a most beautiful specimen and can next be viewed at the Archive Open Day at Lubenham on Sunday April 2nd.

Here is the trophy that Chris mentions Renaud:

I think some of the detail that Chris mentions could be included alongside the photo easily - something for us to discuss further at the next Archive meeting?

Re: 29/4/1923, Milan circuit de Monza, Grand prix des cyclecars, Arthur Waite sur Austin

Just to add a bit more to Tony's resume on A.C.R. Waite, I corresponded with him for some time as well as phoned from Down Under and he was most helpful. After a while I got the idea of him perhaps becoming our first Club Patron & he readily agreed. Not only that, he in his old-fashioned way thought that a Patron should help support the Club, so he sent gobs of money! In one letter he claimed he was a foundation member of the British Racing Drivers Club, but as I found that it started in 1927/28 when he was here in Melbourne, I luckily did not include that in his credentials. Recently I did some research and found he was not a Foundation member, but joined in 1929 when he went back to England. He was a Committee member in the period 1930/31. He later became a life member of the BRDC. I have just sent a letter to our present Club committee suggesting we add this latter to his many other credentials in our literature. Cheers, Bill
