Side Water Branch Retaining Bolts

The retaining bolts on my Ruby 7 are of 1/4" diameter. I recently purchased replacement studs & found them to be 5/16" diameter.

In consideration of the above I would appreciate answers to the following:

Were the bolts a manufacturers option to the studs or are they a further Austin modification?

Where can I acquire 1/4" BSF stainless steel bolts?

The hexagon headed bolts are sealed using both plain & rubber washers. Is there anything unique about these rubber washers? If so, are they avsilable to purchase?

Are there tensioning torque values?

All advice greatly appreciated.

Not for the purist,
Fit 8mm helicoils in the block.
Make up two stainless steel studs 8mm thread at each end.
Use 8mm stainless nuts with Dowty washers.
Lubricate threads with anti seize paste on assembly.

Re: Side Water Branch Retaining Bolts

Stainless studs for side water manifold are available here http://www.a7c.co.uk/spares.php#cylinderblock item no.s BC21a and BC22a

I'm pretty sure that these are what I used, and also pretty sure that they are both 5/16" BSF.

Yes, these studs are 5/16 BSF.
Austin originally used 5/16 BSF bolts to attach the water manifolds, but studs are usually used nowadays. This means that you don't have to disturb the rather fragile threads in the block when you want to remove the manifolds.

Why not fit 5/16 BSF helicoils and use 5/16 BSF stainless studs or bolts, that is what I do and never had a problem

I go for stainless steel studs, and use fibre washers under dome nuts on the outside. That way you don't need to worry about sealing the threads.
