Austin Seven Chummy remote control model

Hi, My favorite car is the 1928 Austin Seven Chummy, I would like to make a 1/4 scale RC model of it, electric powered, then just walk along with it on the dirt back roads. I would also like an onboard scale engine sound. Would appreciate talking to a model builder who has undertaken this kind of project.

You need to talk to Rex Garrod (if he is still about) who made the original Brum model shown here at 8m 30s.

Such a project would be quite a challenge and not cheap to do!

That whole series, The Secret Life of Machines, is excellent by the way.

Sadly, it would appear from a December 2016 post on the fightingrobots.co.uk (Fighting Robots Association) forum that Rex Garrod is now suffering from dementia.

That's sad to hear. He's done some amazing stuff over the years.

Thanks, just what I had in mind. Actually, with today's remote control systems
that would be neither very difficult or expensive. What I would dread, however, is making those spoke wheels !

Would 1/12th scale be to small for you?

Re: Austin Seven Chummy remote control model

I saw a model on Ebay, from Radio Shack, it looks like 1/12 scale. I might get that and use it for measurements for my larger version--about that size of the original Brum. I just watched a Brum on youtube, and I see he had wheels with no spokes--much easier to make.

A couple of minutes on Google produces this result.

Scale spoked wheels, 4 3/4" diameter, (guessing you want 19").

Model aeroplane wheel kits

Not cheap though!
