Nippy Headlight mounting bracket

Hi - does anyone know what size section the two headlight brackets should be on a Nippy. I am guessing about 3/4" square when measured close to the radiator end? It would be useful to know what size the mounting pad is on the end of the bracket (radiator end).

Thanks

Background to all this......

It's just that I have decided to replicate something similar on my AEW. When I purchased my AEW two seater (40 years ago)there was only a pair of crude flat bars twisted to fit between the front of radiator shell and the wing. The headlight was mounded on the twist. There is some evidence that before this crude arrangement was adopted the car had a bar running between the wigs and I would assume that the headlights mounted on that.

However I have had to repair the side valance of the wing where it meets the cycle mudguard part of the wing and the inner front edges of both wings - clearly having headlights flapping around stuck so far forward relying on just the cycle mud guard part of the wing is not sound engineering or a good idea.

Some of the more exotic AEWs have a nippy arrangement so I am not too beaten up about it. Of the three 2 seater AEWs of this body style (mine, Roy Eppy's and Jon Harris's) all have different arrangements though not the nippy arrangement seen on the more expensive AEWs.

Re: Nippy Headlight mounting bracket

I made a sketch of a Nippy bracket which Rudairdh kindly posted on here a couple of years back, unfortunately I can't seem to find the post now, hopefully someone can point us in the right direction.

Peter. On my Nippy (a bit of a special) I used cycle wings in the front as the originals were a bit mangled - and heavy! Rather than adapt the original stays/headlight brackets I made new ones to fit. I used the front forks from a bicycle for the main part with plates welded to each end for fixing. This gave a nice curved item which also tapered from radiator to wing and the cross section was oval......all in all a pleasing shape. the electrics were fed from inside the engine bay up through the hollow strut and out of a hole underneath the headlight mount (also a plate welded on) for the headlight and the sidelight wires carried on and out the end of the strut through the wing mounting flange and up to the sidelight.

Recycling at its best
