Re: Austin Seven Starter motor.

First thing to check would be the brushes.
Then the com face.
Usually with fairly minor reconditioning they can be brought back to life.
If you are not sure take it to an expert.
They are not expensive to get done.
Hope this is helpful.

Do you have a good earth to it? Try running a jump lead to the body of it, directly from the earth terminal.

Re: Austin Seven Starter motor.

Hi Ron,

One cold morning, last year, in a hotel car park - I was starting my car, but it wouldn't turn over and smoke started appearing out of the bonnet louvres. I unscrewed the switch from the starter motor, and it was very oily. A quick clean, and away it went. Easy.

Worth cleaning the switch contacts before you pull the starter motor to bits. This is, of course, assuming you have the later type of starter with the switch riding piggy back.

Hope this helps someone.

Good luck,
Colin
