Tools for drawing out the lower king pin bush

As usual, I would appreciate some expert advice.

I'm trying to get the bottom king pin bushes out of the stub axles for my 1929 RK Saloon.

The lower brake cam bushes are out so I can get to the bottom of the bush which, according to the book, can be "drifted out" I had a go with a small punch but it won't budge. There's not much space to get a purchase with the punch and it just slips off.

The alternative method appears to be to draw it out upwards by tapping a 9/16 BSW thread into it. I have a 9/16 BSW tap but it's too short. The book says to take a length of pipe and hammer a square end into it to fit over the shank of the tap. It all seems a bit Heath Robinsons. Is there a more elegant method or do I just have to make myself a strong cuppa and head off to EBay in search of pipes, studs, washers and threaded rod?

Tap in any thread you can that fits.
Insert a bolt or stud of the same thread.
Drift out from underneath.
