Re: A7 Smiths (MA) 80 MPH 1600 over 46600 speedometer with fitted clock

A7 Smiths (MA) 80 MPH 1600 over 46600 speedometer with fitted clock
See details from HVA auction site below:

That is a post war unit- definitely not an Austin 7 piece.

Cheers, Tony.

Similar speedo, apparently fitted to an Austin FX3 taxi

Re: A7 Smiths (MA) 80 MPH 1600 over 46600 speedometer with fitted clock

i get this one quite often when people are ordering parts.

confusing the austin 7 with the austin BIG 7.

i sold one of these gauges for an austin BIG 7 recently on my website. unused old stock £50.

you may struggle for £75 on ebay.

unless it is the larger gauge for austin 10. these can be turned easilly into replica rev counters for riley etc. so will fetch more money. usually £60 to £90 on ebay depending on condition.

its worth finding out what its from.

Re: A7 Smiths (MA) 80 MPH 1600 over 46600 speedometer with fitted clock

Tony, I don't think the Big Seven unit has a time-of-day clock, and the speedo only reads to 70mph, not 80mph?

Re: A7 Smiths (MA) 80 MPH 1600 over 46600 speedometer with fitted clock

You are more than likely right Mike, I don't really do much big 7.

I do get more and more people asking for parts for there austin 7, when they own a BIG 7.

I'm sure they are mainly new owners and don't know the difference. Sounds strange but true.

I thank you all for your comments and putting me right, The face bezel measurement is 5" diameter so I think the last comment is on the mark with it being the Austin 10, Riley replica size.
