Re: minimalist satnav solutions?

Cannot think of a more dangerous position for a Satnav!
Unlike looking at dash mounted ones where you have some idea of what's happening ahead by flicking eyes back and forth, 'wheel mounted means taking your eyes off of the road and focusing on something much closer.
By the time you realise you need to either bake or take avoiding action, it's too late.

If you are prepared just to have "real-time turn-by-turn voice guidance" without visual guidance, have a look at this:-

Re: minimalist satnav solutions?

Austin - thats the safe way, I agree. one shouldn't look at all - just listen.

Its interesting that ergonomically, this 99p bit of plastic works very well... doesn't get in the way whatsoever on a thick modern steering wheel. And as its close, you could hear in an open top car.

But, as soon as one were to consider the need to have a power supply charger to stem the battery drain, it becomes dangerous and thus useless.

Re: minimalist satnav solutions?

I was thinking more of hiding the phone out of view rather than have it on the steering wheel and then using an earphone for the voice only sat nav.
